Located on Obispo, one of the main, pedestrian arteries of the Old Town, the Hotel Florida affords a feeling of being close to the throbbing life of the city (though the narrow and crowded thoroughfare may prove too busy for some). Well-positioned between Parque Central and the Plaza de Armas, it is one of the best points of departure for an exploration of the Old Town that you can ask for.
Arriving guests are greeted by a finely-carved, glistening art-deco statue of a nude belle, a remarkable sculptural work that has become one of the Florida's identifying charms. Past this reception area, the establishment's stately colonial past is announced in a Spanish-styled inner courtyard, where bare-stone columns, hanging period lamps and a glass fanlight provide a hugely relaxing ambience.
The elegance of the property, common to all restored mansions in the Old Town now operating as hotels, carries over to the restaurant, equipped with a well-stocked bar. A less formal and livelier option is the hotel piano bar, where Cuban music and jazz are performed live every night.
Accommodations, designed to recall the colonial era, have a kind of austere simplicity to them which contrasts with the hotel's public spaces. All are agreeably spacious and well-appointed.
Guests arriving or departing by car can avail themselves of a lot just across the street. The narrow and busy grid of surrounding streets, however, makes walking a less stressful alternative.
With more than enough taste to satisfy the discerning tourist, the Hotel Florida is also ideally located for those who wish to explore and be close to the city's cultural life.

topStandard Room... from US$92 --> US$70
Rooms at the Hotel Florida are sparsely and austerely furnished, and the overall feeling is one of unassuming simplicity (which contrasts curiously with the stately elegance that greets guests below). High, beamed ceilings, polished checkered floors and period (original and faux) furnishings recall Cuba's colonial past, though some elements seem rather out of place. Most rooms have balconies overlooking the street (two lack windows and are best avoided), and couples should try and secure one of the three accommodations with matrimonial beds. The spacious bathrooms, also with beamed ceilings, are splendid.
Junior Suite Room... from US$130
More spacious than the standard rooms, these suites have a sitting area with tall, shuttered doors opening onto a second, separate balcony. Though a nice touch, the more modern furnishings in this lounge area detract a bit from the colonial feel.
Located on Obispo, the Hotel Florida is equidistant from the colonial and more modern part of the Old Town, a tiny walk away from Plaza de Armas and Parque Central. The Bodeguita del Medio bar and restaurant and Havana Cathedral are nearby, and sites of interest are practically all around.

A few weeks ago, I ate at this Hotel and it was really charming. I’m not sure what the rooms are like, but I can say that the service in the restaurant was excellent and very reasonable prices. The mojitos are the best I have tried in Cuba.

The hotel with most enchantment that I know, elegant without being arrogant, cosy and very romantic. The ideal situation. The restaurant is very well. The personnel very well also. You beat: The conditioned air cannot be regulated and you have to request rooms with light, but they put to you in the rooms that they give to a skylight. If you go with your couple request a double bed, and you will see what a pretty room you get.

Hotel Florida Reviews: "A little expensive but very nice"
user a CubaTravelNetwork.com user, italy - date posted: May 3, 2005
Lovely large rooms with beamed ceilings and big bathrooms, simple elegant furniture. Charming inner courtyard. The location is great, right on the busy Calle Obispo. Breakfast was disappointing. Overall the hotel is a little expensive. Our room was unavailable when we arrived which seems to be a recurring problem in Cuba..... We checked out several other hotels while in Habana and would also reccommend Raquel, Santa Isabel, Ambos Mundos (slightly scruffier but fun), Telegrafo and Sevilla if you want a pool. Don't reccommend Nacional or Parque Central. Much better to stay in old or central Havana if you are on a short stay.

Hotel Florida Reviews: "The best....."
user a CubaTravelNetwork.com user, united kingdom - date posted: April 10, 2005
The best hotel that I stayed at on my three visits to Havana during my Cuban adventure. Extremely friendly,polite and helpful staff.I was upgraded to a corner suite room on arrival, well three rooms actually all with balcony!.The hotel exudes colonial charm and sits on one of the main pedestrian throughfares,Obispo, in Old Havana. It really makes you feel part of your surroundings...you can smell the history! Believe me if you can forego the use of a swimming pool then you will not do better than to book yourself into this hotel. For your information the other hotels I stayed at were the Raquel and the Parque Central which were both good hotels in their own right but were always runners up to the Florida when it came to service and all round charm and appeal.
